There are a number of regulatory requirements to be observed with fine art and cultural objects moving between borders. These include laws relating to the movement of certain materials used in artefacts, movement of valuable objects deemed of cultural importance to a nation and the movement of fine art and artefacts which might have been stolen, looted or illegally exported from the country of origin.<\/p>

Once such regulation is the new cultural goods act which has been passed as law and will be implemented in 2025.\u00a0 We are now conducting a workshop and lectures on the new EU Regulation 2019\/880 and its impact of artefacts on board superyachts in international waters.\u00a0 This regulation presents a risk for those responsible for the art collection in that objects may be seized by Customs Officers depending on their status, or perceived status.\u00a0<\/p>

The intention is to prevent illicit trafficking of recently excavated archaeological artefacts, however it was extended during the consultation period to include a vast range of additional objects .<\/p>

Pandora Art Services training offers an insightful background and useful introduction to the act and the consequences for yacht managers, captains, owners and owners representatives.\u00a0 Additionally, participants receive an explanation as to the types of objects affected and the penalties for infringement.\u00a0 Red flag items are covered and the origin territories which specifically apply.\u00a0<\/p>

The one-hour lecture covers the basics. The half day workshop offers more thorough practical support with reference material tools and tips to assist delegates with assessing their art on board and flagging objects of risk and navigating the compliance process. Pandora Art Services is also available to assist with onboard training and to conduct a survey of hazardous objects, advice for Captains and Pursers and a record of related documentation.<\/p>

To be noted: The cultural goods regulation comes with criminal penalties which include prosecution for smuggling and in some cases fraudulent practice.<\/p>
